I am very disappointed that the Secretary of Elections would without reason fire Reggie Wilson. I hired Reggie when I was Secretary of Elections and he has been a reliable, competent and dedicated employee for many years.

At the recent Electoral Board and General Registrars’ Annual Training, Nancy Rodrigues talked with Richard Sincere from Examiner.com. Ms. Rodrigues discussed the budget cutbacks which have resulted in a “redistribution of staff.” An example she offered was the outsourcing of the SBE mail room, which used to have three full-time employees; one of which was laid off. The truth of the matter is that when that employee refused the help of her husband, who frequently accompanied her to work as a volunteer, things changed drastically for that employee. She is quoted as saying “Now we use the Department of General Services and the state mail service (SMS),” with ten mail room staffers who can “expand and contract” based on the SBE’s needs. Three days last week, one of the former mail room employees was directed to work at the SMS distribution center. Now, if they have 10 mail room staffers who can expand and contract based on the SBE’s needs, then why did a former mail room employee at SBE have to be sent there to help. I will tell you why; because, Nancy Rodrigues had a very low opinion of the employee she laid off and this was a minority employee. She says what she thinks is impressive and what sounds good to deflect attention away from the real root of the problems at SBE; her. From the outside looking in, one would think that she is someone that is managing the agency. What she has underestimated is that there are people who are willing to stand on the truth and expose her for the corrupt and diabolical person that she is and will challenge the validity of her comments and the false statements she makes. Nancy Rodrigues has reigned terror on SBE and has decimated the agency and its resources and no one has demanded accountability from her. She has spoken half truths, fabricated stories, misrepresented the facts, not complied with federal and state laws and policies and deceived the citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia. As her tenure as Agency Head is coming to a slow end; January 31, 2011, one thing you cannot accuse Nancy Rodrigues of; leaving the agency better off than what she found it.

I have been following this story since the beginning of this blog with great interest. I have a life-long friend who is employed at SBE who had discussed with me, early on, some of the troubling things going on at that agency. My friend is a person with strong values and an unrelenting moral compass. The things which were shared with me are those stories which have been reported here which I know are true and are not fabricated; indeed unspeakable acts carried out at the hands of Nancy Rodrigues and in later days James Alcorn. It was also discussed with me that there was a strong sense that once the former Deputy left the agency in August 2009 that Nancy Rodrigues would seek to have James Alcorn serve as the new Deputy and together they would begin their reign of premeditated acts which had been planned and that is exactly what happened. It was told to me that Ms. Rodrigues is a master manipulator and can spin a lie until she believes it is the truth herself. It is also said that she is masterful and gifted at convincing people she is the victim and so misunderstood. Don’t fall for the ploy! I was told that when she hired the IT manager; who by the way, has a degree in History and very limited IT and management experience, she purposefully tried to make a big deal that she wanted to reach out to minorities during the recruitment was a disguise. She announced this throughout the agency. That is not being savoy, that is being an idiot. Anyone who is not harboring some type of racial bias does not have to take those type of measures to make a point; it comes natural through your interaction with people and is substantiated by your actions. Minority staff at the SBE feel very strongly that there has been a racially charged pyridine shift during the Rodrigues’ tenure. There is no longer any minorities in management and there are no minorities who supervise any other class of employees. Rodrigues has a history while at the agency of make racially charged and demeaning comments toward minorities. Can you imagine attending one of Rodrigues’ management meetings and there is not a minority in the room but the agency employs at least 50% of minorities as its workforce. What a legacy Rodrigues; you’re headed in the right direction! My friend says the day cannot come soon enough for the Rodrigues’ tenure to be over and is looking forward to new strong and fair leadership. The regret is that Rodrigues has gotten away with way too much and there should be a price for her to pay.

When you refer to hiring the IT Manager, are you referring to the hiring of Paul Stenbjorn or the current IT manager?
