South Carolina considering citizenship verification for voters

New S.C. voters would have to show proof of their U.S. citizenship, under a bill that advanced at the State House Thursday.

A Senate subcommittee signed off on the measure requiring South Carolinians registering to vote to present a driver’s license, birth certificate, passport or tribal verification when registering to vote.

Currently, new voters do not have to show any proof of U.S. citizenship. They attest to their citizenship when filling out paperwork to become a voter.

South Carolina Governor, a minority herself, supports Voter ID

The Boston Globe reports that Jesse Jackson and other liberal black groups are baffled that a minority such as Governor Nikki Haley, an Indian-American, would support voter ID.

Both Haley’s parents were born in India and came to South Carolina before she was born. Haley – a Republican who is the state’s first female governor – never dwells on her heritage, but she has occasionally mentioned it, usually when talking about overcoming adversity.

The governor has said the measure is needed to prevent voter fraud.

“Those who see race in this issue are those who see race in every issue, but anyone looking at this law honestly will understand it is a commonsense measure to protect our voting process. Nothing more, nothing less,’’ said Haley’s spokesman, Rob Godfrey.

Kentucky Democrats target Republicans in the state House.

Kentucky Republicans have approved a state Senate redistricting plan that could force at least four Democrats out of office and end up giving two of the seats to Republicans, according to the Louisville Courier-Journal

and….

They also pointed out that Republicans will likely lose at least six seats in the Kentucky House races this year because of the new redistricting plan drawn up by the Democratic majority in that chamber.

“Think Voter Photo ID is not needed? Watch this video and think again.”

An editorial and cartoon at the Beaufort Observer: As with the video showing the Black Panthers brandishing their weapon and using racial slurs at the polling place, this video will not soon be forgotten.

Opponents of the Voter Photo ID bill recently debated in the N. C. General Assembly have consistently said that voter fraud is rare and in some cases they suggest the system if “fail-safe” and allows virtually no room for fraud. But a recent project of Veritas in New Hampshire shows how very easy it is for a person to get a ballot even though they are not registered or even live in the state. An undercover reporter visited polling places in New Hampshire and gave the poll a false name and in some cases a false name and address (simply gleaned from voter registration rolls). The video recorded the events. You can see how easy it is if a person(s) were to set out to rig the vote.
