Very badly worded headline. It implies that a law requiring ID to be shown failed. In fact, it was a vote on a voter ID amendment that failed. Voter ID Amendment Defeated would be better.

The MN Legislature should adopt the Mark Ritchie Voter-ID proposal to effectuate voter verification. The Voter-ID proposal would require photography of the voter to be maintained. I believe that biometric authentication should be used to safeguard the electoral process after the Supreme Court ruling in Crawford v. Marion County Election Board 553 U.S. 181 (2008). The citizenship verification should also be effectuated to safeguard the electoral process under the Anderson-Burdick balancing standard that discerned Crawford to affirm voter identification as constitutional and valid against a facial challenge violated the First and Fourteenth Amendment of the Federal Constitution.
