Galveston, TX election official: “Voter ID is a small blip on the radar”

The Galveston elections official says voter ID is not a big deal, a small blip on the radar.  Other issues that cause provisional ballots outpace any of those needed for ID issue.

Galveston County is holding early voting on a Galveston ISD issue.
Over 1,100 votes have already been cast. And elections official Bill
Sargent told KTRH it’s gone very smoothly.

“Only one provisional ballot had anything to do with a voter
identification issue. We’ve had 12 provisional ballots for various
reasons, but only one was for voter ID,” Sargent said. “We were
anticipating more. That hasn’t materialized. If this is indicative, then
it will be a blip on the radar, and a very small one at that.”

Catherine Englebrecht of True the Vote told KTRH she expected exactly what we are seeing in Galveston.

“Voters already have, in most cases, the identifications the state is
looking for. Texas has a number of kinds of identifications that work,”
Engelbrecht said. “We’re thrilled to hear that it’s been a walk in the
park, as we knew it would be.”
