At the recent markup hearing (video@ 01:01:45) of legislation eliminating the Election Assistance Commission (EAC), Rep. Gingrey of Georgia indicated that the EAC was renting prime DC office space for $1 million a year despite having no commissioners, no general counsel, no executive director and few staff members.  He claimed the EAC has “nothing to do except to pay for empty office space.”  Ouch!
