Senators have asked for a variety of documents from the Justice Department. Among them is the memo written by the Voting Section recomending preclearance of South Carolina’s Voter ID law. Tom Perez overruled the reccomendation. Senator Lindsey Graham has asked for the memo, but has not received it. Other Senators have asked for Perez’s emails where he conducted DOJ business on his Verizon account. Today, we learn from the ranking member of the Labor Committee that there might not be a vote on Perez until he turns over the documents. “Until those documents and answers to questions are received,” Mr. Alexander said, “it is appropriate to delay the committee’s vote on Mr. Perez.”
New York Times:
“Senator Lamar Alexander, Republican of Tennessee, the ranking member on the panel, said in a statement that Republicans were still waiting for Mr. Perez and the White House to provide “all the information some senators are requesting — troubling information that is key to the Senate’s constitutional role of advice and consent.”
