Campaign Fundraising Questions Dog Hillsborough County, Florida’s Democrat Elections Supervisor

Craig Latimer denied asking co-workers for campaign donations last year when he was running to be Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections while serving as that office’s chief of staff.

“I’ve certainly never solicited any contributions from any employees in here,” Latimer said then.

But the Tampa Bay Times has documents from Latimer’s campaign that say otherwise:

In one, Latimer’s campaign coordinator — also a manager in the office — encourages a half dozen campaign volunteers from the agency’s top staff to donate the $500 maximum contribution. Latimer followed up that memo with an email encouraging the same employees to hit up 10 friends for campaign money.

“To date no one has supplied any names and addresses,” Latimer, a Democrat, writes in the October 2011 email, the sentence underlined, the letters in bold. “It is important that we raise money to get our message out … You are not going to offend your friends, just encourage them to donate to your future.”

Vast Majority of Americans Had No lines on Election Day

Heritage reviews the data on allegations of widespread lines and racial differences in wait times:

There were reports on Election Day of long lines in some isolated
locations around the country. But the average wait time in America was
only 14 minutes. Some have also erroneously claimed that there was some
kind of discrimination at play because the average wait times for blacks
was seven minutes longer than for whites. But blacks tend to be
concentrated in large urban areas and, according to the MIT study, the
most populous areas had longer wait times than those living in areas
with fewer voters. Even The New York Times was forced to admit that the “lines were longest in cities.”

Those large urban areas are almost exclusively under the control of
the President’s own party, whose local officials make the decisions
about precinct size, voting equipment, and the number of poll workers.

Another Wisconsin Felon Gets By “Busy” Poll Workers to Cast Illegal Vote

According to the complaint, Alverson went to his voting place in Hustisford and voted in the November 2012 election. Election workers were busy and did not notice that Alverson was on the list of people who were ineligible to vote due to felony convictions. The village clerk found his name on the list later when she found the new voter registration form, which was forwarded to the police.”

Minority incumbents in Georgia allege non-partisan races are retrogressive, hurts minorities

The Telegraph reports: Gov. Nathan Deal has signed a trio of bills that make key Macon-Bibb County consolidated government offices nonpartisan.  Now the bills head to Washington for federal approval, where state Sen. David Lucas, D-Macon, promises a fight.

The
political parties would be removed from the ballots for Macon-Bibb
County mayor, county commission, board of education and the Macon-Bibb
Water and Sewerage Authority under Senate Bills 25, 30 and 31. And like
nonpartisan elections in general, the votes would be held in July, not
November.

A bill to make judges and the coroner nonpartisan
offices, Senate Bill 26, is awaiting final House approval before going
to the governor due to technical edits in the Senate.  “This day
will go down in infamy,” said Lucas from the Senate floor, hours before
Deal’s signing. “Because this is about race, ladies and gentlemen.”

DOJ may accept this complaint at face value, but the assertion may find some skepticism if this voting change is brought to the courts.

“Jesse Jackson Jr. and wife intend to plead guilty to federal charges”

The Congressman and his wife wrongfully used $750,000 in campaign funds and failed to pay taxes for six years.  Charges include mail fraud, wire fraud, and false statements, misusing funds in purchasing rolex watches and furs and facing prison.  You get the picture.  Greed is a powerful drug.  It is going to be a tough time for the Jackson family and you can only have empathy.
