TRUE THE VOTE COMMENDS THE VIRGINIA STATE BOARD OF ELECTIONS’ EFFORT TO MAINTAIN VOTER ROLLS

HOUSTON, TX. August 10, 2012― True The Vote (TTV), a nonpartisan election integrity organization, today commended the Virginia State Board of Elections for its recent decision to make certain that the Commonwealth’s voter rolls are accurate prior to the November General Election.

“This will go a long way to improve faith in our voting system and set a good example for others to follow,” True The Vote President Catherine Engelbrecht said. “The Commonwealth of Virginia’s recent decision to purchase the Social Security Administration’s Death Master File is the optimal tool necessary to affirm that the deceased will not have ballots waiting for them on November 6th. Every legal action that state and local authorities can take to improve our election system builds confidence in the process – voter list maintenance is the keystone to election integrity.

Section 8 of the National Voter Registration Act (aka Motor Voter) of 1993 requires election officials to conduct a reasonable effort to maintain voter registration lists free from dead voters, ineligible voters and voters who have moved away. True The Vote recently gave legal notice to 160 counties in 19 states regarding their potential violation of Section 8 – holding more than 100 percent voter registration.

“Voter list maintenance can be a difficult and demanding process, but we must make certain that it continues,” Engelbrecht argued. “State and local authorities with limited resources wishing to follow Virginia’s lead can count on True The Vote’s national network of volunteers.“

“10,000 Dead Found on Virginia’s Voter Rolls”

“There’s no indication of any voter fraud, but the State Board of Elections also said it can’t rule the possibility out.”

Local registrars are now working to cancel those voters from the list of registered voters, according to the SBE.  The deceased names were identified by the SBE by cross-referencing 15 million records in the National Technical Information Services master death file with the current list of registered voters in Virginia.  45 million more records are still being analyzed to see how many other deceased individuals may still be on the voter rolls.

“Virginia is committed to ensuring only eligible voters are registered to vote,” said Secretary of the State Board of Elections Don Palmer. “Virginia will continue to work to ensure those deceased or ineligible to vote are removed timely from the voter rolls.”

Proving once again that you don’t know how often voter fraud goes on if you don’t look.  Virgina is looking.  More via NBC12.

Ron Paul Supporter’s Voting Rights Act Claims: “vague and mostly unintelligible”

Unsurprising dismissal of a lawsuit brought under the Voting Rights Act.  The Court:

“[P]laintiffs’ vague reference to ‘state bylaws’ gives this court no inkling as to which of the 50 states and which of the millions of pages of bylaws plaintiffs refer.  Similarly, plaintiffs’ use of the passive voice renders it impossible to discern who broke the bones of whom, who pointed a gun at whom, and whether any of the more than 100 defendants were even involved. Finally, plaintiffs’ vague allegations of voting ballot fraud occurring somewhere at sometime and apparently committed simultaneously by all ‘defendants’ lacks plausibility. While plaintiffs make an oblique reference to a voting machine somewhere in Arizona, the lack of clarity in this allegation is insufficient to raise it to a level above mere speculation.”
