Taxpayer Funded Campaign Fundraiser in PA

 Tribune Review.

“A former research analyst for former Democratic state Rep. Stephen Stetler testified on Monday that part of her taxpayer-funded job was to raise campaign money for him and the House Democratic Campaign Committee.

Asked if Stetler told her that was part of her job description when he hired her in 2004, Erin Grace said, ‘That was my understanding.’

Stetler, 62, of York, a former House leader who chaired the Democrats’ campaign committee, is on trial in Dauphin County Court on charges of theft, conflict of interest and conspiracy for allegedly using public resources for political campaigns.”

Dead Voters in Maryland

Election Integrity Maryland has found dead voters in Montgomery, Prince Georges and Baltimore Counties.  The press release:

“Despite assertions by the Maryland State Board of Elections that voter registration records are kept up-to-date, the non-partisan watchdog group Election Integrity Maryland (EIM) has discovered names of deceased voters in Prince George’s County who remain on the voter rolls, as well as names of voters who have moved or who have duplicate registrations.  Some voters are registered out of vacant lots, post office boxes and Mail Box stores.”

Fourth Circuit Rules in Favor of Registration Access

An important decision in the NVRA case of Project Vote v. Long.  Opinion here.  This case will enable election integrity groups to gain more comprehensive access to voter registration information.  Project Vote sought to review voter registration information and a jurisdiction in Virginia refused to grant access.  One problem, federal law says they had a right to the information.  The district court disagreed with Virginia and last week the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals (in an opinion by Judge Harvey Wilkinson) affirmed.  The basis was the plain language of the statute, raising the question why Virginia fought so hard to oppose access to public information.  Information allows citizen groups like True the Vote to judge whether or not government officials could be doing their jobs better, or are even following the law.
