Voter ID in the Bluest of Blue States: Rhode Island

Democrats in RI tell the Story Behind Voter ID in the “Bluest” of All States

“Why did the Democratic majority legislature in Rhode Island pass a voter ID law? A recent article in the Providence Phoenix offers the real answer: there is rampant vote fraud.

Look at the long list of examples the author offers that are recounted from state legislators themselves:

- A public official was told before voting herself that she’d voted already

- An Illegal immigrant was offered documentation in exchange for impersonating voters and convincing others to impersonate voters

- A man who voted once and returned in different garb to vote again

- A voter who couldn’t spell his own name

- People who are not constituents were brought in vans to vote at the polling places

Given all this observed at the polls – coupled with the widespread popular support (Brown University poll found 85 percent of Rhode Islanders support voter ID), it’s not surprising the electoral reform commission in the state identified voter ID as a top priority, the state legislature passed the bill, and the governor signed it.”

North Carolina voter fraud investigations into non-citizen registrations ongoing

Gary Bartlett, the state elections chief, said two investigation into voter fraud are ongoing.

A group called the Voter Integrity Project of NC is challenging 553 Wake County registered voters who were excused from jury duty by stating they are not U.S. citizens.

Bartlett said elections officials have identified 41 names
that need further checking to make sure they are legitimately
registered, including 22 that voted in prior elections

“Seniors chop up AARP cards in voter ID protest”

Conservative groups are calling on Minnesota seniors to boycott the
American Association of Retired Persons over the group’s opposition to
the photo identification measure on the November ballot.
To drive their point home, seniors gathered at a Wednesday press
conference snipped AARP cards into shreds. They say there are
conservative-affiliated groups that can give them the same senior
discounts and that share their conviction that requiring a photo ID to
vote will reduce voter fraud.

Pennsylvania offers easy way to verify birth certificate for photo ID

Under the policy, announced Wednesday, native-born Pennsylvanians who
have never had a driver’s license, and lack a paper copy of their own
birth certificate, can just go to a PennDOT motor license center, fill
out a one-page form and have their birth records electronically verified
by the Department of Health.

Previously, those residents had to
order a paper copy of their birth certificate with a raised seal. There
was a 10-week wait time and a $10 fee to obtain the document, said Ron
Ruman, a spokesman for the Department of State.

“We continue working on quicker and easier ways for eligible voters to
obtain photo IDs,” Secretary of State Carol Aichele said in a statement.
