Colorado voting dispute

A story at KDVR in Denver about a fight involving the Secretary of State.  The article says the Secretary of State is involved in a fight whether or not ballots may mail to individuals on the “inactive” voter rolls.  State law says ballots may mail to those on the active list.  Democrats are saying failing to mail to military voters (on the inactive list) violates the MOVE Act.  Of course DOJ is now involved so one may reasonably guess whose side they will take.  Missing from the article is the key fact of whether or not the inactive military voters actually requested a ballot or not.  If they did, the Secretary of State may well be wrong.  If they did not, he may well be right.  But don’t expect news reports to include the important facts.

Aurora (CO) man found guilty of voting twice multiple times

At the Denver Post:

A 70-year-old Aurora man will be sentenced Thursday for voting twice in county elections in 2008 and again in 2009 — a case he called “the biggest joke in the world.”

David Harold Shackley, a registered Republican, was convicted by an Arapahoe County jury last month.

Prosecutors said Shackley voted early in Denver County in 2008, then turned in a mail-in ballot in Arapahoe County that same election, according to a press release from the 18th judicial district attorney’s office.

Latest Voter ID opponent: the United Steel Workers

The United Steel Workers union issued a statement approving of the work of Senator Dick Durbin in holding a hearing on. . . voter ID.  Obviously an all-hands-on-deck approach to an issue having nothing to do with steel or labor.  The USW statement failed to include the “solution in search of a problem” talking point.  Nuance and flair, however, has never really been a strong suit of the USW.  And until recently, neither were they terribly concerned about minority rights.  Ask Robert Eliserio (aka “Taco Bob” or “Buritto Bob” to USW members).
