New Mexico GOP can’t get records of illegals with government ID’s

An interesting decision in New Mexico.  The state republican party wanted the names of illegal aliens who had government identification, such as a driver’s license.  The Alamogordo Times has this:

“The state can withhold the names and addresses of illegal immigrants and foreign nationals who get driver’s licenses in New Mexico, the state Court of Appeals ruled Friday in a dispute over public records sought by the Republican Party.

The court concluded that Gov. Bill Richardson’s administration had properly redacted personal information, such as names and addresses of drivers, from documents provided to the state GOP in 2006 in response to a public records request about illegal immigrants who received driver’s licenses.

The court also upheld the administration’s use of executive privilege and attorney-client privilege as grounds for not releasing some materials.

The GOP had hoped to use the license information to check on possible voter fraud and whether illegal immigrants were registered to vote in New Mexico.”

Muncie (IN) councilman convicted of three felony vote fraud charges

This one is too much.  WXIN has the story.

And so does the Star Press:

“What’s most sad about this case is there have been more serious election violations that never resulted in any charges. Delaware County politics is rife with stories of people being allowed to vote in old precincts; ballots disappearing and reappearing and ballots not being initialed properly. Vote fraud has become so common it has become accepted as normal in some quarters.”

Chicago: sanitation workers convicted of voter fraud

The Chicago Tribune:

“A superintendent with the Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation was convicted today of vote fraud and attempting to persuade 50th Ward voters to fill out absentee ballots in two elections in 2007, according to the Cook County state’s attorney’s office.

In addition to vote fraud and attempted absentee ballot fraud, Anish Eapen, 39, was convicted of attempted mutilation of election materials for trying to lure voters to use absentee ballots during Chicago elections in February and April 2007.

Eapen’s co-defendant, 36-year-old Armando Ramos, was found to have assisted Eapen’s illegal efforts, and was convicted of the same three charges, the state’s attorney’s office said.”

Yet another Dillon County (SC) voter fraud allegation

ElectionLawCenter.com previously reported on a report of voter fraud in Dillon County (SC).  Now there are more .  Once again, absentee ballots are at issue:

She told us, and police that a man gave her $20 and a brand new dress in exchange for her vote by absentee ballot.

And more information about the first allegation has emerged:

Rowland learned her name had been forged on an absentee ballot. Police checked out 30 other ballots dropped off at the same time and found four of them to be questionable.

How to comment on proposed Justice Department Section 5 guidelines

Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act vests great powers in the Federal government over state and local elections.  The Department of Justice has proposed new Section 5 regulations and Abigail Thernstrom has blogged  about what they may mean for America at ElectionLawCenter.com.

If you would like to tell the Department of Justice what you think about the guidelines, they have invited public comment.  Comments about their proposal should be directed to:
