In Tennessee, “Early voting swells, despite Democrat concerns over new ID law”

“Droves of voters have taken the opportunity to cast ballots early,” according to
reports based on numbers published by Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett.

“Alluding to Tennessee’s recent voter ID law, the release from the Department of State stated that, based on the most recent numbers, only 31 voters statewide had been forced to vote with a provisional ballot because they had showed up at polls without a state- or federal-issued photo ID. Of those 31 individuals, 16 had already returned with proper ID and had their ballots counted.”

The early vote count is now up to 491,575 – nearly one in eight of Tennessee’s registered voters – according to the Secretary of State’s website.

Military Ballots Lost in Afghan Crash?

A source familiar with the internal operations of FVAP provides us the following email which was sent this morning:

Dear Election Official,

On Friday, a transport aircraft crashed at Shindand Air Base in Afghanistan

and was destroyed along with 4,700 pounds of mail inbound to Afghanistan.

We do not know if there were any ballots in the destroyed mail, but all of the

mail was bound for the zip code 09382 (Shindand, Farah, and Camp Stone (also

known as Herat)).

If you have sent any ballots to the zip code 09382, we recommend you attempt

to contact the voter and resend a new ballot, as the first ballot may have

been destroyed in the crash and fire.

Voting Assistance Officers will be informing Service members in the area

impacted by this incident to submit a Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot (FWAB).

Thank you for all that you do for military and overseas voters. If you have

any questions, call us toll-free at 800-438-8683 or send an email to

vote@fvap.gov.
