No Wonder Sheila Jackson Lee Screamed to DOJ about True the Vote

When your congressional district is infested with irregularities, and you have people documenting them for the first time, scream “voter intimidation” and accuse people of racism.  Shameful behavior.

“Engelbrecht’s volunteers ultimately submitted 800 signed affidavits outlining problems they encountered, including having overheard some election judges telling people who they should and should not vote for.  . . .

The group began doing research into the abnormalities in Jackson Lee’s district. They took the first 3,800 registrations of the flagged 19,596 homes with six or more registrants and began to investigate further. The group visited addresses and scoured property tax records. The group found many of the addresses were vacant lots or business addresses. Thirty-nine were registered at businesses and 97 of the addresses were nonexistent. One hundred six of the registrations revealed the same registrant registered more than once, and 207 of the addresses turned out to be vacant lots.’

Maybe DOJ will finally respond to True the Vote’s October 2010 letter describing potential Section 8 violations in Sheila Jackson Lee’s district.  Maybe not.  One thing is for sure, when a Republican Attorney General takes over, serious action will be necessary to fix this abdication of responsibility by current Justice Department employees.

Forum Discussing the “New Jim Crow”

The “New Jim Crow” is a book by Michelle Alexander.  This three-way forum at Front Page takes a look at it, and it’s rancid conclusions about the American criminal justice system.


“The Left resurrects Jim Crow so frequently to advance unpopular ideas, that it has lost all meaning. Alexander’s book takes this to a whole new, and absurd, level. She argues, in short, that the criminal justice system is a racial segregation scheme, where blacks are now warehoused in prisons instead of on plantations. She provides a dangerous intellectual framework for dismantling perhaps the last mighty keep of our culture – the notion that evil and crime carry consequences. . . .  .


One unintended consequence of Alexander (and her fellow travelers) trotting out “Jim Crow” so regularly is that it diminishes the evil of Jim Crow. Reasonable people simply do not believe that people being in prison for committing crimes compares with the political disenfranchisement of the black minority and de jure segregation across the South.”

Minnesota advocacy group pushes Board to investigate marriage amendment backers

The Minnesota Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board has agreed
to investigate complaints against two groups supporting the
constitutional amendment that would ban same sex marriage.  The complaints were filed
by Common Cause last month, and allege Minnesota for Marriage and the
Minnesota Family Council broke Minnesota’s disclosure laws. In the
complaint filed against Minnesota for Marriage, Common Cause executive
director Mike Dean wrote, “MFM filed a false report with the Campaign
Finance and Public Disclosure Board by not itemizing and disclosing the
names of all individuals who contributed more than $100 to MFM’s
campaign in support of the Marriage Amendment.”

…(Minnesota Family Council CEO) Helmberger sent an email to supporters earlier this week with the
subject line, “They want me in jail” and asked for financial support to
defend the organization against what he called “this baseless attack.” …

Helmberger told his supporters “Let me state emphatically: even
though new campaign finance regulations exceed the requirements of the
law and violate our Constitutional rights, I have followed them to a
“T.”

America post Citizens-United: “The presumption is freedom”

The Federal Election Commission held a hearing Wednesday on a proposed
rule intended to nix and alter regulations that conflict with the 2010 Citizens United decision. ….The proposed FEC rule, “Independent Expenditures and Electioneering
Communications by Corporations and Labor Unions,” had been called a
“housekeeping measure” by campaign finance attorneys. 

But
panelists pushed the commission to implement the Citizens United changes
clearly and leniently for groups because “now the presumption is
freedom.”

“The regulations as they currently exist were based upon the idea that
there was a corporate prohibition, and the FEC was then involved in the
enterprise of implementing certain exceptions,” said James Bopp Jr. of
the James Madison Center for Free Speech.

“Well now of course that has been reversed 180 degrees. Now the presumption is freedom,” he said.  full story at the link

The “Dog Days of Elections” in New Mexico

These dog days of the election process are quite interesting because it
would seem that getting a false voter card was easy. This is despite the
fact that I have been told many times the registration process insures
only legitimate voters are on the rolls. When I questioned if that
statement is true, I have been told LOUDLY that there are no instances
of voter fraud in New Mexico so the integrity of the voting process has
been proven. However, that statement is a hard sell now with the advent
of Dog-and-Husband-Gate.

South Carolina LtGov resigns over campaign finance indictment

Fox News has the story: South Carolina’s lieutenant governor
resigned Friday as he was indicted on a string of ethics charges over an
alleged scheme to fake campaign contributions while at the same time
using thousands of dollars in donations for personal shopping sprees and
trips. 

Ken Ard resigned as the state’s No. 2
official just hours before the indictment was handed down. In a
statement, South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson called the
investigation “unprecedented.” 

He accused Ard of claiming bogus campaign
contributions “to create the false appearance of a groundswell of
political support.” Some of those contributions were flat-out fake;
others represented Ard’s own money which he “funneled” to other people
and then back to his own campaign, according to Wilson and the
indictment.
