Repeat of 2010 debacle with 25 Alabama counties AGAIN violating the MOVE Act

Despite multiple Alabama counties failing to mail ballots on time in 2010, DOJ decided not to sue the counties involved or take any steps to correct the institutional deficiencies in the Alabama electoral system. In fact, Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Tom Perez told NASS that DOJ refused to sue the counties involved; instead relying on pressuring or suing the Secretaries of State.  The only problem is that the Secretaries of State have little to no role in the mailing of ballots.  That responsibility resides at the local level.  So is anyone surprised that the same structural problems remain in 2012 with now 25 counties failing…. again.

Overseas voters from Pike County are part of the more than 533 military
members and their families affected by Alabama’s failure to send
absentee ballots out by Jan. 28.

…at least 25 counties reported sending in ballots after the 45-day
deadline. Baldwin, Bullock, Calhoun, Chilton, Coffee, Conecuh, Cullman,
Dale, Dallas, Elmore, Etowah, Hale, Jefferson, Lauderdale, Limestone,
Madison, Marshall, Mobile, Montgomery, Morgan, Pike, St. Clair, Sumter
and Tuscaloosa Counties were all named.
