The Hill reports that Democratic Leader Hoyer wants the House of Representatives to quickly pass the Leahy/Conyers bill by summer without any hearings, negotiations or other “national discussion” on race. The last reauthorization to the VRA required months of hearings and substantial evidence of discrimination to try to meet the constitutional standards necessary for such intrusive on state law and justify providing such a veto power to the Obama Department of Justice. In 2005, it took substantial preparation and almost a year of hearings (and ignoring amendments) to pass a bill that did not meet constitutional muster. The Sensenbrenner approach of simply adopting whatever the activist groups offer failed miserably as long as the word “photo ID” is in the bill. And the Democrats now want to pass the Leahy/Conyers bill without any substantive hearings or evidence as if the bill was some resolution naming a federal building or park. While Sensenbrenner has no idea what is in the bill written by activist groups, Democrats are hoping to undo Republican redistricting gains and overturn integrity laws with an Obama DOJ.
That is why Democrats are trying to pull a fast one.
Typically, the approach conservatives take to these assaults is to just stand in the way. When the VRA came up last time they should have just voted to make it cover ALL states. Then it would be ‘fair’.
Next; photo ID: fs we can’t demand it for those that want to control the political process, we certainly can’t demand it for ANY federal action.
The country is falling down to communism and all we can do is whine. The repubs don’t care. Buy a $3 postcard and sent it to Congress.

I began researching the entire corrupt all vote by mail system in Oregon after the 2000 Recounts. I have called for 3 recounts and fought a lawsuit against the OR SOS to insist that they follow state Election integrity law 254.482 to destroy all leftover unused ballots on Election night. However, the Judge decided SOS administrative rules trump Election law to continue to allow these leftover ballots to remain for possible use until after each Election is certified a month later.
The only solution is to outlaw all permanent forms of vote by mail and require all people to provide proof of citizenship when registering to vote. Then picture IDs must be checked prior to receiving their ballots on Election day. We must eliminate all same day registration and early voting options.
