Virginia Photo ID is Quick Easy and Accessible

“There is another option available for elderly voters who may not need a driver’s license and do not have other acceptable forms of photo ID for voting purposes. The voter may simply request a free voter photo ID from their local general registrar (or satellite office) that are located in each of Virginia’s 133 localities. As with voting or registering to vote, those voters with an inability to read, write or fully complete a form due to a disability or other impairment, may receive assistance from election officials or other person in completing the process. The photo ID application form is also online and accessible to visually disabled voters with text-to-speech enabled internet browsers. General registrars and ready to assist voters with special needs, just as they do with the voting experience, testing and setting up accessible voting equipment or curbside voting.”

At Netroots Nation “Of Course Voter ID is the New Jim Crow”

“For Nina Turner, it’s all about protecting the “greatest equalizer” in our society. She described how voting no longer comes with any obstacles regarding race, sex, and socioeconomic status. But she’s running to become Ohio’s next Secretary of State to stop the wave of voter suppression happening across the country, which she decried as “immoral.”

Excusing Criminal Conduct Among Political Class

Excellent editorial in the Orange County Register describing attitudes all too familiar about voter fraud:

“Yet, since the Wright conviction, there have been rumblings among the political class disparaging the “seriousness” of the crimes for which these officials have been prosecuted. Those perspectives illustrate the height of arrogance and cynicism toward the voters held by too many whom, quite frankly, feel they are more important than the law itself. Thankfully, while arrogance is not a prosecutable offense, lying and perjury are. And now, two juries have spoken, delivering a powerful message: Politicians are not above the law.”

Process: Want environmental regulations? Support Sensenbrenner Bill

Once again, the far left understands what some in the GOP do not.  This article plainly states that the way to enact broader environmental policies is to pass the Sensenbrenner bill to give Eric Holder more power over state elections.  How does this work?  Simple. The more power over state elections that the DOJ has, the easier it is to elect Democrats who support environmental policies sought by the left.

In our ever-browning America, empowering black and brown voters is absolutely necessary to make the transition to clean energy.

Notice the faith that is placed in the “ever browning” of America.  This is a meme repeated over and over, that a change in race will equal a change it politics.  It assumes a couple of things which may not be true.  First, it assumes that demographic trends are static.  They aren’t.  What happens one day may not happen the next.  It also assumes that coalitions have static goals.  They don’t todays allies are tomorrow’s enemies.  Yesterdays enemies are tomorrow’s allies.

Nevertheless, the important point cannot be lost: folks like Brentin Mock want the Sensenbrenner bill to give Washington more power over state elections to facilitate a broader progressive policy agenda.  This is something the other co-sponsors will be educated about as well as other GOP members making it even less likely this already stalled bill will pass.
